Alyssa was right behind Connor when he opened the door. The man on the doorstep was equal in height to Connor, with black hair and an unreadable expression.

"Connor Quinn?"

"Yes, what can I do for you?" Connor's body blocked the doorway. Alyssa was sure he thought the man might be another reporter.

"Excuse me for barging in so early, but I've been trying to reach you. When telephone service was restored this morning, I reached your housekeeper. She told me you were here."
